Leave the hinges on the door.
Replacing exterior door jamb hinge side.
Remove the existing door by pulling out the hinge pins and lifting it off of the hinges.
Place the door with the exterior side down across two sawhorses.
Measure and cut the replacement jamb to length.
Leave the other side of the hinges on the door jamb as you will use this piece later.
Use a cordless gun to unscrew the hinges from the jamb.
2 cut through marked line with oscillating multi tool.
Remove the rotted jamb by tapping it away from the head jamb and cutting the nails.
Use a scrap of the door jamb to scribe the threshold angle transfer the angle to the door stop on the replacement jamb and notch the jamb.
Avoid damage to the screws by using a hand screwdriver.
3 carefully chisel and break out lower portion of.
While this job is not one for beginners most avid diyers could easily accomplish this if they tak.
Insert the lockset tailpieces through the latch bolt and screw the handles together by tightening the retaining screws.
Measure from the threshold to the bottom of the door stop.
Set the door aside in a safe place and place the pins in a plastic bag so you don t have to worry about losing anything important.
Complete the installation.
Step 2 remove trim casing.
Remove the old door from the jamb.
